A unique abstract portrait based on a photograph

Abstract portrait

Have an abstract portrait made: your face, your art

No stiff portrait on the wall. No filters or algorithms. Instead, an artwork that you recognise and feel, created by our artist who translates your photo into abstract shapes, colour, and composition, using Lovemap Studio's unique visual language.

What is an abstract portrait?

An abstract portrait is not a photorealistic painting but a work of art that captures the essence of a person through organic shapes, lines, and a carefully curated color palette.

At Lovemap Studio, we work in our own recognizable visual language. A style you'll see reflected in all our works. This means that your abstract portrait not only reflects you or your loved one but is also simply beautiful. Art that fits into a stylish interior and tells a story.

How it works: having a portrait made from a photo?

You don't need to be an artist. No need to have any idea about style or composition. You provide the story, our artist turns it into art.

Step 1: Send us your photo

Request a free design via our website. We will then contact you via WhatsApp. Here you share the photo of the person to be immortalized. Preferably a profile photo (from the side), with a calm background. We
will ask you a few short questions: what colors suit your interior? Or even better: send us a photo of the place where the artwork will hang, and we will adapt it accordingly.

Step 2: Our designer gets to work

No AI, no templates. Our designer manually translates your photo into abstract shapes in the style of Lovemap. Every line, every plane, every structure and every colour choice is made consciously. You will receive a preview for approval: we only print once you are satisfied.

Step 3: Printed on museum quality, delivered to your door

Your abstract portrait will be printed on Hahnemühle Museum Etching paper and finished with a tray frame, one of the most prestigious fine art papers in the world, used by photographers and museums for its unparalleled color depth and texture.

An abstract portrait: for whom?

Having an abstract portrait made is one of the most personal gifts there is. And of course, also one of the most beautiful things you can do for yourself.

  • An ode to yourself. Your home instantly becomes personal. Whether you're furnishing a new home, celebrating a milestone, or simply love art with meaning, an abstract portrait of yourself is not vanity. It's self-expression.
  • Immortalizing the faces of those you love most. Most of the portraits we create are for parents who want their children's faces on the wall, but find photos don't fit as well into their interior design. Abstract portraits offer a perfect middle ground: recognizable, yet artistic and stylish.
  • A gift for someone you love. More personal than flowers. More lasting than a card. An abstract portrait is a gift that will hang on the wall for years and every day says: I've thought about who you are.
  • A portrait of the grandchildren, but stylish. Many grandparents receive a framed children's photo from their children. Beautiful, but forgotten after a year. An abstract portrait of the grandchildren is art that truly fits on the wall, and that the whole family will continue to look at.
  • For a special moment. Birthday, anniversary, graduation, birth, or as a wedding gift, having an abstract portrait made as a reminder of a special life phase. Something lasting, for someone who deserves it.

How much does it cost to have an abstract portrait made?

We create personal abstract portraits starting from €349. This price includes the design process, finishing on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper, and includes a luxury floating frame and shipping. So it's ready to hang immediately!

The price depends on the size you choose. We offer various sizes and color palettes, so you'll always find a size that fits your wall, interior, and budget.

Are you unsure if a portrait is the right choice for your situation? Send us a message; we'd be happy to help you think it through!

Frequently Asked Questions about Commissioning a Portrait

What kind of photo do I need to have an abstract portrait made?

Our portraits are in profile: this means the side of the face must be clearly visible. A sharp, well-lit photo where the face is clearly visible. No professional shoot is needed, a good smartphone photo in daylight works perfectly. Avoid photos where half the face is in shadow or the face is very small in the frame. If in doubt, feel free to send multiple photos, and we'll see together which one works best.

How long does it take to create an abstract portrait based on a photo?

After your order and submitting the photo, you will receive a first preview within 5 to 7 business days. Once approved, the portrait will be printed and shipped. The total turnaround time is approximately two to three weeks. Do you want it as a gift for a specific date? Please indicate this with your order, and we will adjust the planning accordingly.

Can I have an abstract portrait made from someone else's photo?

Yes, and many of our customers do that. An abstract portrait as a surprise is one of the most wonderful gifts there is, for a birthday, anniversary, Sinterklaas, or Christmas. You don't have to tell the person you're ordering it for anything about it, as long as you have a good photo of them. We'll keep it a secret, you give the gift.

What makes this different from having a regular (photo) portrait taken?

A classic portrait (whether a painting or a drawn portrait) focuses on realism. The goal is recognition. An abstract portrait in the style of Lovemap goes a step further: it captures who someone is, not just what someone looks like. The colours, shapes, and composition are deliberately chosen based on the person and based on your interior. Artistic and stylish.

Can I have multiple people in one portrait?

A Portrait Lovemap is designed around one person. Do you want to bring multiple people together in one artwork, such as
a couple or a family? Then our One
Mission Lovemap
is probably a better choice. Not sure what would be the best
fit? Send us a message, we're happy to help.

On what paper is the portrait printed?

We print on Hahnemühle Museum Etching 350 g/m², one of the most prestigious fine art papers in the world. This paper is used by photographers and museums for its rich color depth and soft, poetic texture. It gives your portrait a look you would never get from a regular print.
